February Meeting of M.B.G.

24/02/2012

A balmy evening on Feb 15th saw a small but enthusiastic group gather for the first meeting of 2012. Several new members were welcomed and  pleasant social interaction included drinks and nibblies.

Jane Mouritz reported on various matters of interest and discussion followed.

Public Art Works. John Willis was unable to attend but has advised that he is working on ideas to create sculptures using some of the timber from the old Albany jetty. Their placement will be agreed later.

Master planning is needed for the strip from M.B. to Emu Point boat pens. The area includes several erosion hot spots. A proposal will be put to council to fund this planning as part of next year’s financial budget in partnership with the Dept. of Transport ( coastal unit).

The bikes on the fence around the old hotel site have been deemed a safety hazard and owners will be asked to remove them.

The new leasee ( Kate) of the cafe at Ellen Cove has been in conversation with council re how to improve amenities at the site. Kate has some exciting ideas.

We will seek permission from Singapore owners of hotel site to erect some public art. If agreed could go ahead with Jen Viol’s idea of ” bed-art” sculptures using more of olad jetty timbers. Donations will be welcomed towards this.

Ken from Emu Pt group joined the meeting . There will be a discussion with experts to consider the erosion problems and coastal management at Emu Point. Jane Singleton has agreed to go to this meeting as the M.B.G. representative.

The next meeting of M.B. G. will be in Eyre Gardens and will include discussions on the designs for revamping this area with Tracey Blaskow to outline her plans for kidsafe play equipment.
