Dredging up the dirt on Albany Port

If you came along to the MBG meeting at Albany Port Authority last Friday, you would be full bottle on the facts about the proposed dredging to expand Albany Port to accommodate the iron ore ships that the Grange Iron ore project in Wellstead will need.

MBG meeting this Friday – and bring your socks!

It’s short notice I know, but the Middleton Beach Group March meeting is on this Friday evening at 5pm. While the Surf Club is being renovated, we are without a home.

The Albany Port Authority has kindly offered to host this meeting, and we will be joined by APA CEO Brad Williamson and Environmental Manager Paul Mackey, who will tell us all we need to know about the dredging in the Port.

We will also have the results of the Beach users survey, and “The fence”.

Bring your spare socks!

Friends of Mt Clarence & Mt Adelaide Busy Bee

Friday 12 February, 9am at the start of the boardwalk at Ellen Cove.

The Friends of Mt Clarence & Mt Adelaide are having a Busy Bee meeting on Friday, 12/2/10 at the start of the boardwalk at Ellen Cove at 9am. They’ll be working on Acacia paradoxa seedlings and Pampas Grass.

Anyone who is interested in helping out is welcome!

And while we’re in the area, Jane has been talking to City of Albany Reserves Supervisor Mark Ford, about the litter under the boardwalk in Ellen Cove, and the rapidly growing kikuyu grass along the boardwalk as well. Hopefully we’ll see some action!

It’s been a busy few weeks for Middleton Beach with the tourist season, Umbrella survey of beach users, and some interesting goings-on around a couple of our favourite discussion points – the bike racks at Ellen Cove, and the Esplanade site. Stay tuned for more!

Middleton Beach Group turns one!

Wouldn’t it be great to be able to celebrate our first birthday with a shin-dig at a newly constructed hotel at Ellen Cove? Well, not this year, but you can still come along and be a part of our celebrations, at the meeting this Sunday evening.

The meeting this Sunday will be right in the middle of the Beach users survey, and will be a great opportunity for a little feedback as to how the survey is going (did you see the Albany Advertiser this morning?) See you there – the usual time and place – 5pm this Sunday at the Albany Surf Lifesaving Clubrooms.

Middleton Beach users survey. Friday 15 – Monday 18th January.

Your chance to have your say – and to make sure others have theirs!

The survey of Middleton Beach users is going full steam ahead, with just over a week to go until the umbrella stands will appear at Ellen Cove and Emu Point to take a snap-shot survey of what beach users think about our beautiful stretch of coastline.

A huge thankyou to everyone who has been involved in organising the survey, and volunteered their time at the stand. But more help is needed! IF you are able to give a couple of hours of your time over the weekend, please click on “comment” below and leave your details.

Please can we have a VOLUNTEER to attend the next ROADWISE meeting – being held at City Council offices on Tuesday 8th December 2009 at 9.30 am. You have been invited as a delegate of TMBG by Sgt Nigel Fiander – particularly to raise the issue of ongoing hoon disturbances at Middleton Beach – potentially to gain Roadwise support for CCTV video surveillance on the area or other alternative solutions. regards Jane Mouritz
